Speight, van Nostrand & Gibson Limited is now part of Krcmar Surveyors Ltd.

Two established surveying firms entering one shared future.

Krcmar Surveyors Ltd. is proud to welcome Speight, van Nostrand & Gibson Limited (SVNG) to the Krcmar family.

The acquisition brings together two established names in Ontario land surveying and marks an important new chapter for both firms. For Krcmar, it is also an opportunity to carry forward a surveying legacy that reaches back nearly two centuries.

A History Spanning Generations

The history of Speight, van Nostrand & Gibson brings together two longstanding Ontario surveying practices.

The Gibson surveying tradition dates to 1825, when David Gibson was appointed Deputy Land Surveyor in Upper Canada. His practice continued through successive generations of the Gibson family and eventually became W.S. Gibson & Sons.

Speight & van Nostrand was established in 1885 by Thomas Bailey Speight and Colonel A.J. van Nostrand. The firm carried out extensive surveying throughout Northern and Southern Ontario, including more than 30 Township Base Line and Meridian Surveys between 1885 and 1911. Both founders were also closely involved in the development of the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors and each later served as its president.

Over the following decades, the practice contributed to significant development projects, including the Home Smith Project and Toronto-Dominion Tower.

In 1972, Speight van Nostrand Anderson & Currie and W.S. Gibson & Sons joined together. The firm adopted the name Speight, van Nostrand & Gibson Limited in 1991.

Carrying the Legacy Forward

With SVNG now part of Krcmar Surveyors, we are bringing together experienced people, extensive survey records and generations of knowledge of Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area.

For SVNG clients, the relationships, project knowledge and commitment to professional service that have defined the firm remain just as important. As our teams come together, clients will benefit from the broader resources, technology and capabilities available through Krcmar.

This acquisition is about more than growth. It is about preserving an important part of Ontario’s surveying history while building on it for the future.

We are proud to welcome the SVNG team to Krcmar Surveyors and look forward to the next chapter of this remarkable surveying legacy.Â
